You never know when a wild animal on the loose is going to chase you in your next hangout spot. While squirrels, birds, rabbits, and deer typically won’t cause any harm, we must remember that not all animals are as friendly. Remember when this raccoon jumped into a hammock with this man? Pretty scary, right?
Well, buckle up folks! We’ve got another scary animal tale and this one sure has teeth.
A Florida fisherman didn’t get the big haul he was hoping for. In fact, he ended up getting chased away from his fishing spot by a large alligator.
In the viral video, shows a man fishing for some tarpon on a shore in the mangroves. While he was reeling in his hook, that’s when he spotted a pair of eyes glaring at him from the water’s surface.
“Oh, Jesus Christ. Gotta be careful here,” he said, immediately backing away from the shore edge.
The alligator made its way up to the shore and, as the fisherman retreated, the gator glided toward the bank and started chasing him. The video shows the alligator chasing the man for a few minutes before he managed to reach a safe place
However, the man continues to antagonize the creature. He shouts at it and calls at it, trying to get it to look back in his direction. Throughout the video, the fisherman breathes heavily as he tries to settle down from the fright the predator gave him.
“Guess that’s the end of my fishing trip,” he nervously joked as he stared down the intimidating predator. The fisherman takes a few steps toward the alligator, thrusts his fishing pole, and even said, “Get back.”
According to AWM, hundreds of people shared comments about the viral video on YouTube. The following is a selection of comments from viewers around the globe.
“And then the second gator appears at your side. ‘Clever girl.’”
“Why the hell would you even go the direction of that gator after he came ashore? I’m glad you are ok. I hope you are never in a horror movie.”
“This guy is crazy. I would have been terrified, and he’s going back and looking at it and saying ‘hey buddy.’”
“And I thought people only tripped and fell down at the worst possible time in horror movies for suspense.”
“He fell down. He actually fell down while running away. That was the worst thing he could’ve done. I thought that only happened in the movies.”
“Lived in Florida my whole life. This is pretty much how you get killed by a gator. Need to treat these animals with respect and act with caution in their environment.”
According to a 2019 report by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), there are about 1 million alligators in Florida. Data collected by the organization showed between 1948 and 2019, 413 unprovoked alligator bite incidents occurred in Florida, of which 25 were fatal. Residents in Florida often have encounters with alligators and in some cases, the reptile is also spotted in neighborhoods.
