He Saw A Baby Stuck In A Hot Car, Then The Owner Of The Car Began To Scream At Them All…

Given the number of hot car deaths recently, it makes sense that New Hampshire police officer Lt. Jason Short would shatter a car window with his baton after seeing what appeared to be a baby left inside on a hot summer day. But, as it turns out, his efforts were in vain, because the baby in peril was not what he taught it is.

Officer Short rushed over to the car at a Walmart parking lot in Keene, New Hampshire, to respond to the 911 call. Upon arrival, he saw little feet sticking out under the blanket draped over a car seat. His instinct was to break a window to rescue the baby since it was 90 degrees that day.

Using his baton, Short busted the window open and successfully pulled the baby out of the hot vehicle. Afterward, he called an ambulance after checking that the baby appeared to be dead.

Trained for situations like these, the police officer then proceeded to give CPR, but that’s when he noticed that the baby’s skin didn’t smell and feel like normal. That’s when he realized it wasn’t actually a real baby at all, but a very convincing plastic doll.

These plastic dolls often referred to as “reborn” dolls, are specifically made for their authenticity and are meant to resemble real babies. They’re quite expensive and usually cost more than two thousand dollars apiece, but are apparently popular with collectors.

A small crowd had already gathered in the parking lot and the owner finally came back, surprised to see all the commotion around her car. The woman was rather surprised about the officer’s actions and wasn’t too keen on her car window being broken for a baby doll.

The doll, named Ainslie by the woman, was so lifelike and the police officer felt that he did the right thing by breaking the car window.

Speaking with WCVB, he said, “I would never assume that it’s a doll. I would always assume that it’s a child. I would never do anything different.”

The lifelike doll belongs to Carolynne Seiffert, who collects dolls to cope with the death of her son. The police department will pay for the damage to her car.

Seiffert revealed that she owns 40 dolls just like Ainsley.

She said, “I’ve been laughed at and embarrassed by all the fuss. You can’t know how people choose to deal with their losses in life.”

After the incident, Seiffert put up a bumper sticker on her car explaining the doll is not a real baby to stop the situation from happening again. The police department also offered to pay for the car damages.
