The Biden administration appears to be looking for a way to bypass legislation and set his own course on gun control by cutting off a Missouri ammunition plant from producing AR-15 ammunition as Republican and Democrat senators try to reach an agreement on a Democratic-led gun-control bill.
The Biden Administration is taking behind-the-scenes steps to further strangle the already constricted market for ammunition in the United States. The move could result in a reduction of the commercial production of 5.56 caliber ammunition by over thirty percent.
“Joe Biden’s administration is contemplating a policy that would drastically reduce the availability of civilian 5.56mm/.223 caliber ammunition rounds used by popular AR-15 rifles,” Winchester Ammunition warned a Top ammo manufacturer and U.S. armed forces, supplier.
If successful, the measure would significantly reduce the amount of ammo available for the most popular rifle in America (and, not coincidentally, the one most targeted by gun prohibitionists).
Ammunition for self-defense, training, and competition would definitely become unaffordable for many Americans since supplies would undoubtedly decline and prices would undoubtedly soar.
Larry Keane, general counsel and senior vice president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the main trade organization for the American weapons and ammunition industries, delivered the news of the change. The following tweet from Keane was posted on Wednesday night: “The U.S. Military is actively considering shutting down the sale [of] M855/SS109 ammo from Lake City to the commercial market.”
The White House says reports of a possible ban on AR-15 ammo sales to the public are “way off.” But @NSSF senior VP @lkeane tells me that’s a LIE: “We have had direct conversations with officials at Winchester” about how the Army IS “considering” this policy change. pic.twitter.com/UW9G7Crahy

The ammunition listed in Keane’s post is 5.56 caliber, which is the most typical caliber for the AR-15.
The plant “currently produces a significant portion of this type of 5.56mm ammunition for the commercial market,” according to GOP Reps Sam Graves (R-Mo) and Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo), and allows the operator to keep the factory at a high state of readiness. The U.S. “Army is ready to ramp up production in the case of a national emergency,” they added.
“The dismantling of the Second Amendment, compromising military readiness, and escalating inflation are the Biden administration’s top priorities,” continued Hartzler. “It’s time for the Biden administration to cease challenging our right to keep and bear arms under the Constitution.”
The Biden administration is encouraging Democratic governors to approve state gun control laws, which is another attack on 2A rights. Biden might think that his administration will be able to advocate for comparable federal restrictions if states enact severe gun laws.
One of the states currently dealing with new gun laws in Delaware, which also has a Democratic governor.
About the proposed legislation in Delaware, the National Rifle Association and former president of the Delaware State Sportsmen’s Association John Sigler, a current NRA Board member voiced his concern.
Sigler said, “All of this is being driven by the White House, Joe has been a gun-banner forever – back to when he was running the Senate Judiciary Committee. My first dealings with him involved ‘Saturday Night Specials’ and ‘Cop Killer’ bullets.”
“This is exactly what those of us here in Delaware feared when he announced he was running for president” Sigler added.
Needless to say, this attack on America’s ammunition supply is just the most recent in a long line of anti-freedom attacks by the Biden Administration.
We inherited a great freedom thanks to the sacrifices of generations of Americans who came before us. And we are charged with continuing that great legacy handed down to us. #NRA #2Ahttps://t.co/fyJ6KOyR6L
