A West Virginia woman has been arrested for murder after allegedly setting her two sons’ beds on fire and then fleeing from their trailer home.

Molly Joe is alleged to have locked her family inside their trailer after setting her two sons’ beds on fire as her husband, Justin Delgado Sr., slept. The victims were identified as 3-year-old Delmar and 5-year-old Justin.

According to the criminal complaint, Molly Joe locked the front door from the outside, and then made her away across the street to her mother’s house.

Molly Joe’s husband, who was sleeping at the opposite side of the home, was awakened by the smoke. He couldn’t get to his children because of the smoke, but managed to call for help through a small kitchen window, according to Daily Mail.

The suspect’s father, Drew McCombs, told authorities his daughter was walking back to her home when they heard him calling for help. McCombs said they opened the door and tried to find the boys’ bedroom, but the smoke was too thick.

“I got in there and I couldn’t see, I couldn’t see nothing — at all,” McCombs told authorities. “I couldn’t find them.”

The boys were pronounced dead at the scene. Molly Joe’s husband was treated for smoke inhalation.

It is not clear if Molly Joe has an attorney who could comment on the charges at this time.

Assistant State Fire Marshal George Harms said the investigation was a success thanks to the efficient work of the first responders.

“When they arrived on scene, their firefighting tactics preserved the scene well for us to do our investigation,” Harms told WEPM.

Harms added that the investigation included several agencies, some of which included the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the West Virginia State Police.

“West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office is the lead investigative division for all fires,” Harms explained. “Normally we take the lead on these cases.”

“We talk to a lot of people during any investigation,” Harms added. “We just follow the leads at that point and it takes us where we go.”

Molly Joe was booked into Eastern Regional Jail on March 9. She is facing two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson.
