A mom finds herself locked in a battle with the DMV after they deemed the plate offensive and inappropriate. This is just bonkers.
Any normal person driving behind Wendy Auger‘s vanity license plate would likely have a quick laugh and continue about their day. But for a while there, the state of New Hampshire didn’t think it could tolerate “PB4WEGO” on the roads.
The initials stand for the phrase “pee before we go” — something Wendy claims is commonly said by parents before getting in the car with their children.

However, the New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles has recently asked Wendy to turn in her plates due to the fact that the state prohibits phrases related to excretory acts.
“Who has a mom or dad or parental figure who hasn’t said that to kids before leaving the house?” Wendy asked the outlet following the recall. “I’m not the type to sit here with a picket, but come on.”
Wendy explained that she had wanted the “PB4WEGO” plate for several years and “jumped on it” when New Hampshire increased its plate character limit from six to seven.
Wendy believes that the state is trying to stomp on her first amendment right to free speech.
She’s had the plate for 15 Years, so imagine her surprise when she got a letter in the mail in early August, telling her she could no longer use the plates because they included sexual or excretory words, according to Wendy. We’re not sure what, exactly, is offensive about the plate – it’s pee! Everyone pees!
Wendy isn’t going to take this laying down, though. She’s written a letter to the supervisor of the Bureau of Registration at the DMV, asking for permission to keep her plate. She was told her request was sent to the legal department, and then she never heard back. Apparently, Wendy was one of 92 residents who got the same letter about their plates. But maybe she was the only one who fought back, and it actually ended up paying off for her!
Then, she got word from New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu. Calling the recall a “bureaucratic hold up”, he told Wendy that the issue had been resolved, and she was free to keep her pee plates.
Finally, some good news! We have to think that all the media attention explains why the “bureaucratic hold up” was suddenly fixed, but as long as PEB4WEGO rides on, we’re fine with it.
