On Sunday, an ex-employee of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was killed in Delaware after being ordered out of a Lyft and got struck by a car, authorities said.
The man, identified as Sid Wolf, 43, was fatally struck on Coastal Highway when the driver stopped in the left lane and told Wolf and five of his friends to get out.
Around 1:45 a.m., Wolf and five of his friends hired a Lyft driver to pick them up in Dewey Beach and transport them to a residence in Bethany Beach. Sunday.
A “disagreement ensued” between the group and the driver at some point during the trip, and the latter “terminated the ride and stopped in the middle of the southbound left lane and ordered all six passengers vacate the vehicle,” according to the report.
Wolf had barely exited the back passenger side and was standing in the road when the driver of a Toyota Corolla behind the Lyft, which was believed to be a Honda Pilot, changed lanes to avoid the stopped SUV. Wolf was struck by the collision.
Unidentified passengers numbering the remaining five were unharmed. State police said, but Wolf was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Toyota’s 27-year-old driver was still present.
In a statement, Lyft said that it was “heartbroken by this incident.”
“Our hearts are with Mr. Wolf’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we’ve reached out to offer our support. We have permanently removed the driver from the Lyft community and are assisting law enforcement with their investigation,” the company said.
Cuomo mourned his former senior policy adviser in a tweet on Tuesday evening.
“Shocked & saddened to hear this tragic news,” Cuomo tweeted about his former senior policy adviser. “Sid was a phenomenal public servant who worked relentlessly for the betterment of all NY’ers.”
