They Have Finally Put Together A Plan To Get Brittany Griner From Horrible Russian Prison!

The Biden administration has proposed trading two Americans held in Russia, Paul Whelan, and Brittney Griner, for a Russian arms dealer presently spending time in a U.S. prison.

In exchange for the two American captives, the notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout would be allowed to leave a U.S. prison. Bout, also known as the Merchant of Death, is currently serving a 25-year sentence for trying to sell heavy weapons to a terrorist organization so that it might strike American forces supporting the Colombian government.

“The Biden administration has offered a deal to Russia aimed at bringing home WNBA star Brittney Griner and another jailed American, Paul Whelan,” Blinken said.

Although the Associated Press writes that it is yet unknown whether Russia will accept the offer, he termed it as a “major proposal” and said that it was made weeks ago. Although Russia has not yet responded to the offer, a senior administration official stated that the United States “continue[s] to express the offer at very senior levels” while the ball is still in their court.

Griner has been held since February on drug-related allegations, following the discovery of cannabis vape cartridges in her luggage at a Moscow airport.

She admitted guilt to having the cartridges in her luggage when she was being tried and now faces up to ten years in jail in Russia. And Whelan has been detained since 2018 and was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2020 on what the United States describes as fictitious espionage charges.

The Department of Justice initially opposed the sale despite the fact that it had the backing of senior officials at the State Department and White House before as sources told CNN which broke the story on Wednesday.

The alleged swap request follows the successful exchange of Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was serving a 20-year term in the US for cocaine smuggling, for American Trevor Reed in April, who Russian authorities claim endangered “the life and health” of Russian police officers.
