As reported by: TNG It seems that Georgia state law prohibits sex offenders from participating in Halloween. That being the case, one sheriff in the state has decided to cut off any temptation at the pass and let the kids and their parents know what houses to avoid whether or not the people living there leave the light on for them.
The Butts County Sheriff’s Office posted a message on Facebook Saturday notifying residents that it would be placing signs with the phrase “WARNING! NO TRICK-OR-TREAT AT THIS ADDRESS!!” on the front doors of every residence belonging to a registered sex offender.
“Georgia law forbids registered sex offenders from participating in Halloween, to include decorations on their property,” Sheriff Gary Long said in the Facebook post. “With the Halloween on the square not taking place this year, I fully expect the neighborhoods to be very active with children trick-or-treating.”…
“There are some sex offenders that are not happy,” Long told WCNC. “But I’m not in the business of making them happy. I’m in the business of keeping safe communities and making sure that our children are protected.”
And forewarning potential victims is a relatively easy thing to do that will prevent a lot of heartache, pain, and other fallout later if sex offenders were to violate the children.
This year, law enforcement across the country are being extra vigilant with safety warnings and concerns. Parents are encouraged to keep an eye out for unsealed candy wrappers, and other suspicious sightings, as well as contacting police if anything is found.
