Construction Worker Snatches Baby From Car In The Nick Of Time

A construction worker from San Jose rescued a 1-year-old boy when the worker suspected a man kidnapping a baby and tried pawning it on strangers.

Colin Blevin cautiously peeked inside a white Honda Accord, while the suspect attempted to convince a couple to take the baby. Colin was surprised when he saw a clean and well-cared baby strapped in a car seat. Colin’s instinct told him this definitely wasn’t the man’s kid.

Colin then confronted the suspect named Raymond Randy Gutierrez, who appeared to be hopped up on drugs:

“Hey, what’s going on here? What’s up with this baby?”

The suspect claimed that the lady he “borrowed” the car from accidentally left her child in the back seat, and he didn’t realize it until it was too late. The man realized Colin did not buy his story; he quickly ran off in the other direction and tried to break into another car. Colin did not chase after the kidnapper, instead he used the opportunity to grab the baby and get him to safety.

“So, I snatch a baby out of a car that I don’t know nothing about, but I knew something wasn’t right.”

After Colin took the baby, he then contacted local police officials to report the incident.

Gutierrez, 42, was arrested a few hours later and was booked in Monterey County Jail.

He is facing charges of grand theft auto, kidnapping, child cruelty, child stealing and vehicle theft.

“The child is safe, and the parents get their baby back. This is a win for us,” Soledad Deputy Chief Damon “Chuck” Wasson said.
