Recently, one of those cams was accidentally turned on when an off-duty police officer saved the life of a small child.
IJ Review reports,

The three-year-old boy in this video, Damian Valencia, could have died while choking on a jawbreaker candy if it weren’t for off-duty police officer Quinn Averett.

When Damian’s parents realized their son was choking, they panicked and brought him into Green Valley Grocery in Mesquite, Nevada, where the cashier called 911.

Officer Averett was only a block away when the call came in. He rushed to the scene, put Damian upside down on his knee, and used a reverse Heimlich maneuver to free the candy from his throat.

But Averett didn’t realize that he’d accidentally switched on his body camera, which captured all of this incredible footage on video.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, fortunately these body cams often serve to uplift and exonerate police officers. Averett will be honored by the Mesquite city police department with a Life Saving award.
