Supatra Susuphan, nicknamed Natty, is 17, she is from Thailand, and she is one of only 50 people on the planet known to have a genetic rare condition called the Ambras or ‘Werewolf’ Syndrome. The syndrome is characterized by excessive body hair growth. It may have led to awkward stares and flat out bullying, but the condition shot her to global limelight when Guinness World Records named her the hairiest girl in the world in 2010.
Although Natty is immediately recognized by the copious amount of hair on her face, she also has thick hair on other parts of her body—majorly her arms, back, ears, and legs. Unfortunately for Ms Susuphan, Ambras Syndrome has no known cure. The closest thing to a treatment is laser hair removal, but that proved ineffective, as hair regrowth was unsurmountable.
So when new photos of Susuphan emerged of her looking radiant without facial hair, the collective curiosity of the public was piqued. As it turns out and as confirmed by her father, she now regularly shaves her body, which we imagine must be tiresome. But it’s got to be worth it when the hair masks such a beautiful face.
However, she may have another credible reason or motivation. Natty found love, tied the knot, and has shared affectionate messages and loved up photos with her husband. “You’re not just my first lover, you’re the love of my life,” she recently posted on social media.
Natty had previously iterated her hope of getting “cured one day”: a statement that epitomized her infectious positivity. Susuphan had been called ‘Wolf Girl,’ ‘Chewbacca,’ and ‘Monkey Face’ amongst other unflattering names, but in her words; “I don’t feel any different to anyone else, and I’ve got lots of friends at school… Being hairy makes me special.”
