‘We’re Not Going to Be Victims’: Mom and Daughter Shoot Armed Robber With Their Own Handguns

ON THURSDAY THE TULSA POLICE RESPONDED TO A CLERK CALLING 911 TO A STORE ROBBER NEAR 12TH AND MEMORIAL.

Witnesses say that Tyrone Lee walked straight into the liquor store and demanded for money as he held a shotgun in his hands. Video cameras in the store show the owner and her daughter both grabbing their guns to defend their lives in case the suspect shot at them. The owner then open fires at the robber.

The clerk said they shot the robber multiple times and he was gone by the time the police had arrived. Officers identified the robber as Tyrone Lee. The police believe that Lee is linked to a bundle of other robberies in the same area.

The owner of Forest Acres Liquor Store in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and her daughter used their own handguns to defend themselves against an armed robber.

According to ABC News affiliate KTUL, the suspect, whom police identified as Tyrone Lee, entered the store with a shotgun on Feb. 22 and demanded money from the owner’s daughter, who was behind the register.

Surveillance video, which was provided to KTUL, shows the woman behind the register slowly back away with her hands in the air.

After he walked away from the counter, the woman retrieved a gun that appeared to be hidden. When Lee approached them a second time, the mother fired one shot and then two more.

The daughter also retrieved a second handgun and appeared to call 911. However, the initial shots weren’t enough to scare him off, and he returned to the store moments later.

Lee violently wrestled the gun away and pistol-whipped the owner, whose daughter then used her own gun to shoot him at close range. The suspect is seen in the surveillance footage stumbling around the back of the counter before leaving the store.

He later turned up at a local hospital in critical condition, and KTUL reported police believe he is connected to 10 other robberies in the area.

Justin Christen, the owner’s son, told News on 6 that the store has signs that inform everyone they have firearms and that “we know what to do with them.”

“We’re not going to be victims,” Christen explained to KTUL.

He added that his sister and mother “fought for their life” and had they not had the handguns, it could have turned out very differently.

Lee’s aunt, Corrine, who raised him, went back to the liquor store and apologized for her nephew’s behavior.

“I grew up raising him so I know the problem that he has,” she told News on 6. “He’s sick and I pray they get him some help.”

KTUL reported the woman who was hit with the pistol required staples, but Christen told News on 6 she’s doing well now.
