The parents and grandparents of the 3-year-old boy, who was not identified, filed a lawsuit against Target and Prince Lionheart at the Riverside County Superior Court.
The lawsuit states that Target and Prince Lionheart were reckless by not warning parents about the dangers of using the WeePOD Basix Potty Ring.
Target is selling the potty trainer on its website for $14.99.
According to the parents, their 3-year-old son went to the toilet and sat on the WeePOD Basix Potty Ring.
Suddenly, the boy’s penis got stuck to the potty trainer as his brother watched in horror.
When he tried to get up, the sharp plastic nearly cut off his penis all the way around.
The child was rushed to the hospital, where doctors used glue to reattach his penis.
Doctors were unable to use stitches as the area is too sensitive.
The boy will suffer permanent damage as a result of the injury, according to the lawsuit.
The parents are seeking unspecified damages.
This was not the first time that a boy suffered from the potty trainer.
A 4-year-old suffered a large cut to his penis from the sharp plastic edge of the WeePOD Basix Potty Ring.
However, some people really like the WeePOD Basix Potty Ring.
Dan Huse wrote: “My wife and I are the proud owners of 4 of these puppies. Now, we don’t have to worry about our kids falling in the toilet butt first and getting flushed down the toilet. It is every overprotective parent’s worst fear, next to kids falling off bikes without helmets or being unreachable by cell phone.”
One California mother is not so impressed by the quality: “I loved this seat for the 2 to 3 months it lasted before cracking. Both the blue and gray cracked and my son said they were “biting his butt.”
“He’s a really small kid, maybe 25 pounds at the time, so it wasn’t a weight thing. I have fixed the seat many times with super glue because it is otherwise perfect. More and more cracks have appeared and I’m ready to throw in the towel. We bought a Baby Bjorn and although that one is hard, it holds up over time.
“I also bought the more expensive version of the weePOD seat and it seems like it will hold up better but it is really hard for my son to get on the toilet himself because it is such a snug fit. He won’t even use it, sigh.”
