The Senate’s Republican leadership failed multiple times to pass a healthcare bill. Therefore, President Trump threatened members of Congress to quickly approve one of his key campaign promises – to repeal and replace Obamacare.
After the final failed vote in the early hours of Friday morning, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the upper chamber would move on from healthcare to other matters, but the President appears to have other plans.
The President recently tweeted, “If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon!”
This tweet came a day after Senate Republicans, led by Arizona Senator and our favorite traitor failed to get the 51 votes, which would have been enough to at least repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act. President Barack Obama’s signature health care bill best known as Obamacare which is on the way to collapse, which would lead to the enactment of a single payer European model of insurance where everyone’s health insurance is subject to what the government feels is sufficient – everyone except lawmakers that is.
As premium and deductible costs are rising and choice and competition are decreasing, over 1,200 counties will have only one insurance provider available on the individual market next year but 35,000 individuals will live in counties with no options available at all.
These numbers are expected to increase as insurers finalize their 2018 plans in the upcoming weeks, and yet, Democratic lawmakers have not introduced any major legislation to try and fix the system.”
“Bailout” is a negative term in Washington, according to Washington Post. When the president said “bailouts”, he is referring to “cost-sharing reduction” subsidies, known as CSRs among health-care policy experts. This was an element of the Affordable Care Act that helped lower the cost of deductibles and copays for people making less than 250 percent of the federal poverty line.
The law required insurance companies to offer silver-level plans that discounted the out-of-pocket maximum depending on the income level of the enrollee. So instead of a health plan paying, say, 70 percent of the cost of covered benefits, someone who was just above the poverty level would get a plan in which 94 percent of the costs are paid.
Moreover, the Democrats’ refusal to change current law most likely stems from an unwillingness to admit that the ACA has not lived up to its promises. Conservatives predicted eight years ago that a government-heavy health-care system would lead to decreased competition and increased costs. Democrats should not let embarrassment that those predictions came true by preventing real solutions and lasting reform.
