Americans Won’t Be Happy With What Ford Motor Co. Just Said About Anthem Protesters

The majority of Americans have had enough of the NFL and the protests that have increased over the past couple of weeks and the advertisers are feeling the burn. While many advertisers have stated their displeasure with the protests there is at least one who is siding with the players.

Ford Motor Company has stated that they side with NFL players who kneel during the anthem.

“We respect individuals’ rights to express their views, even if they are not ones we share. That’s part of what makes America great,” a spokesman for Ford said.

The Ford family owns the NFL’s Detroit Lions and Ford and is a major sponsor of the NFL. The company appears to be putting what it considers its financial interests above its core demographic.

Martha Firestone Ford, a member of the Ford family and owner of the Lions, strongly criticized President Donald Trump last Sunday for his comments criticizing players who disrespect our anthem and flag.

“Our game has long provided a powerful platform for dialogue and positive change in many communities throughout our nation,” Ford said. “Negative and disrespectful comments suggesting otherwise are contrary to the founding principles of our country, and we do not support those comments or opinions.”

Ford, the country’s second-largest automaker, seems to have forgotten a bulk of its employees — as well as customers — are blue-collar, hard-working Americans.

That core demographic is what propelled then-candidate Trump win states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and many other states across the country in the 2016 presidential election.

Given a choice between taking the side of most of its employees and customers and choosing protesters instead, Ford appears to have sided with NFL players who insult our national anthem and flag.

According to a CBS poll, released on Thursday 41 percent of respondents believe professional athletes should use their platforms to discuss politics “but only on their own time.”

The poll found an additional 27 percent said professional athletes “should not” use their platforms to discuss political issues.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday said that 58 percent of voters believe that “professional athletes should be required to stand during the national anthem at sporting events.”

Despite Ford suggesting it supports athletes protesting our anthem and flag, a majority of Americans believe kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful.

The American people have decided enough is enough and Ford would have been wise to side with the American people over the players. It is disrespectful to treat our country and national anthem the way the NFL has done. It’s a shame that Ford appears to have caved to political correctness and taken a stance in direct opposition to it its core demographic.
