A Georgia police officer took to social media to congratulate one of her colleagues while spreading the message that police officers are ready to help people in all colors and walks of life.
Officer Kay Denton posted a photo on Facebook showing her fellow officers responding to a car accident on the highway on July 30. She explained, “If you look closely you can see a police officer lying on the ground to the left side of the car.” While this may not seem like a significant detail, it’s what she caught him doing that took her breath away.
According to Denton, the 8-year-old boy had suffered some internal injuries and was scared to death so the officer laid on the ground with this child, cradling his head in his hand and talking to him to keep him calm.
What made it more interesting is that the boy who was involved in the accident is black.
“To help people, to be there for them no matter what the circumstances and no matter what skin color,” Denton said. “I pray that this beautiful little boy is okay and I thank God that I work with some amazing officers who are so compassionate and caring!”
It also happened that the boy is celebrating his birthday so right there in the median, with the weight of the car and the world on this child, the cop sang Happy Birthday to him. “At one point the child reached over and patted the officer on the head and then played with the officer’s hair!” Denton explained in her post, which she shared with a specific purpose in mind.
Denton went on to thank her fellow officer for making her proud. Her Facebook post has been shared more than 4,000 times as of Thursday morning.
