The Family Of Someone Who Was Shot Trying To Steal A Car Wants The Shooter Charged With…

Just on January 7, 2023, Saturday when a tragic incident occurred in Washington, D.C. Karon Blake a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by a homeowner. Now, the community is demanding to know who killed the unarmed child as the shooter’s identity is being protected by the police.

According to the homeowner, they were awakened by noises outside their home at around 4 am and saw Karon Blake “tampering with a vehicle.” The homeowner confronted Blake about the possible car theft, but the conversation escalated, resulting in the homeowner shooting the 13-year-old dead. Police arrived at the scene after the homeowner had shot Blake multiple times. The boy was rushed to the hospital but later died due to the gunshot wounds.

Police found a stolen car in the area, and they believe Blake had used the vehicle. The homeowner claimed that Blake was not alone, and two other underage boys were with him. However, they allegedly fled the scene before the homeowner could harm them.

The community demands that the shooter be charged with murder for killing an unarmed child. Councilman Zachary Parker also expressed his agreement with the community, stating that “no car or material possession is worth a life – under any circumstances.”

“I join Ward 5 residents in calling on the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to hold accountable the individual who took Karon’s life. Our community’s healing is linked to the trust we are able to cultivate with those tasked with keeping us safe, and I believe our neighbors are entitled to knowing more about the circumstances of Karon’s death,” Parker said in a written statement.

The D.C. Safety Squad, an activist group, echoed the community’s sentiments, saying that “vigilante behavior is not the way to go about it.”

Frankie Seabron, a member of the D.C. Safety Squad – an activist group – said, “We really should value people more than we value property.”

They also stressed that people should not feel that bringing a gun to a car break-in or carjacking is a solution to decrease crime.

Thousands of people across the country share the same sentiment that Karon Blake’s life should not have been taken. Although police are protecting the homeowner’s identity, they are currently talking to the United States Attorney’s Office to decide whether the shooter should be charged in Blake’s death but the community’s healing is linked to the trust they cultivate with those tasked with keeping them safe, and they believe they are entitled to knowing more about the circumstances of Karon’s death.
