One sperm donor became so thrilled by donating his seed that he now faces a lawsuit for increasing the risk of accidental incest across the country. The donor, Jonathan Jacob Meijer, is now being taken to court by the Netherlands’ Donorkind Foundation because he has fathered five hundred fifty children. Meijer’s prolific sperm donations are increasing the risk that his donation babies will mate with each other and suffer incest as a result.
The lawsuit against Meijer claims that he lied about how many children he has fathered as a result of his sperm donations. The lawsuit aims to stop Meijer from fathering more children because he is increasing the risk of incest in his European country.
In the Netherlands, sperm donors can father a maximum of twenty-five children to twelve different women. Clearly, Meijer has violated that rule by fathering hundreds and hundreds of children across dozens of different mothers.
The lawsuit is being pursued by one Dutch mother who used Meijer’s sperm to father one of her children. The mother gave birth to the child, Eva, back in 2018.
“If I had known he had already fathered more than 100 children I would never have chosen him,” she said. “If I think about the consequences this could have for my child, I am sick to my stomach.”
By filing a lawsuit against the sperm donor, Donorkind wants Meijer to stop donating his sperm and to learn what clinics he had donated his seed to, so they can cross reference his prolific production of children and learn who is at risk of suffering from incest as a result.
The lawsuit also plans to destroy Meijer’s remaining sperm donations unless they are currently on reserve for a specific woman who wants him to father her future child.
“We are taking action against this man because the government is doing nothing,” Donorkind Foundation chairman Ties van der Meer said. “He has a global reach via the internet, and he does business with large, international sperm banks.”
Meijer is a 41-year-old musician. Although he has been blacklisted from donating sperm in any Dutch operation, he has been traveling abroad to spread his seed to as many women as possible by donating his sperm in clinics located in Denmark and Ukraine, among others. He currently lives in The Hague.
In addition to offering his sperm through donation clinics, the 41-year-old musician also approaches parents directly through social media if they are looking for artificial insemination services. He shows no sign of slowing down his behavior, according to those familiar with the lawsuit.
Meijer now lives in Kenya in eastern Africa. He sometimes operates under his alias, Ruud, when offering his sperm donation services to clinics and parents.
The Dutch gynecologist association NVOG raised a warning about Meijer back in 2017 after he fathered more than 102 children. They were worried he would cause incest among the next generation of children in Europe.
