Some people just don’t know when to walk away, until they’ll learn the lesson a hard way.
A judge taught a disrespectful teen inmate a lesson after she talked back to him during a bail hearing. In the clip, the judge can be seen speaking to the girl via satellite video, going through her various charges, and asking about her valuables.
18-year-old Penelope Soto found herself at a bond hearing inside a Miami-Dade County courtroom to face charges of Xanax possession. Despite the severity of the situation, Soto found it to be quite humorous. Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat had a few jokes of his own.
“It’s not a joke, you know, we’re not in a club now,” he told her after she laughed off his question about the cost of her jewelry. He was even less thrilled when she responded “I’m serious about it, you just made me laugh” and that the jewelry is “worth a lot of money.”
Because Rodriguez-Chomat just had to have an exact figure, he pressed on. Soto replied “like Rick Ross,” which flew right over the judge’s head. Rodriguez-Chomat asked if she was on drugs. She replied “no,” but not before the judge could set her bond at $5,000.
Soto offered an “adios” rather than a simple “goodbye” (or nothing at all), so Rodriguez-Chomat ordered her to return so he could add $5,000 more to her bond. Just before exiting, Soto flipped him the bird and said “fuck you.”
“Did you say ‘f— you’? Did you say that?” the judge asked the teen suspect.
“Yes, sir, I did,” the girl honestly replied.
Rodriguez-Chomat didn’t like that, so he hit her with a 30-day jail sentence for contempt of court. Attempting to get the last word in rarely benefits anyone.
“Oh, you did say that?” the judge said. “I find you in direct criminal contempt. Thirty days in the county jail.”
While a teen girl was meeting with a judge over a video link, she learned a lesson in respect. The teen was listening to the judge talk about the various charges she faced. The judge also asked the teen suspect about the jewelry she was wearing, saying: “How much would you say your jewelry is worth?” which prompted the teen to laugh at the judge and not take his question very seriously.
According to AWM, viewers were shocked by the girl’s reaction but were impressed with the judge’s response.
“What a stupid ‘Little Girl’ (I call her a Little Girl because she obviously is not Mature enough to understand that just go around Flipping people off, especially a Judge that she is already in front of for another stupid act that she had done),” one person wrote.
