A family in rural Scotland is seeking a live-in nanny to take care of their children (ages five and seven) while they are busy at work.
The family recently posted a job listing on a British childcare website, looking for someone to live at their home in the Scottish Borders and take care of their two young children. They are also offering a $63,000 per year salary and a month’s paid vacation.
However, there’s a catch, he or she doesn’t mind living with ghosts.
Five nannies have quit within the last year, according to the posting, all “citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving.”
The family said they’ve known the house had a haunted reputation for almost ten years but cautioned that they haven’t experienced anything out of the ordinary themselves.
“We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house,” the family wrote.
The job pays an annual wage of 50,000 pounds, or about $63,000, and includes 28 vacation days. The family posted an update saying people have sent them more than 2,000 messages about their opening.
It’d be easy to dismiss this all as some big joke, but it turns out the listing is legit. According to Richard Conway, the founder of the sitewhere the listing was posted, they did some digging to ensure it wasn’t some elaborate hoax.
The CEO described the family’s plight as “the most interesting story we’ve heard.”
“When we saw the advert we were stunned,” Conway said. “Some of the guys at HQ were skeptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realized it was a genuine position.”
