Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently exposed the hypocrisy and extravagance of Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA), illustrating the disconnect between Democrats and the average American. Swalwell’s financial reports reveal luxurious travel to Miami and New York, all funded by campaign donors, leaving one to question the priorities of the Democratic Party.
Carlson humorously pointed out Swalwell’s shady past by saying, “When he’s not shagging Chinese spies, he gets to travel all over the world at his donors’ expense.” This remark refers to Swalwell’s alleged involvement with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese honeypot operative. Carlson continued his criticism, painting a vivid picture of Swalwell’s lavish lifestyle, funded by his unsuspecting supporters.
As a co-chair of the House Democratic Steering Committee since 2016, Swalwell has openly reported his extravagant trips, often far removed from the concerns of his constituents in the 14th congressional district southwest of San Francisco. One such example is his fundraising event at the opulent five-star Ritz in Paris, which included renting a limousine. This ostentatious display further highlights the disconnect between Swalwell and the average American.
Chadwick Moore, a contributor at The Spectator, joined Carlson to scrutinize Swalwell’s spending habits more closely. He pointed out that the congressman’s campaign had spent $11,000 on hotels in Miami Beach, $8,000 in Times Square New York, $6,000 in West Hollywood, and nearly $10,000 in Las Vegas. Moore jokingly speculated on Swalwell’s activities in these locations, alluding to the Democratic Party’s propensity for indulging in excess while claiming to represent the working class.
Swalwell briefly pursued a presidential bid in 2019 but ultimately withdrew when the polls didn’t favor him. His controversial past caught up to him in January when he was removed from the House Intelligence Committee by Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy over his connection to a suspected Chinese spy.
Swalwell dismissed the move as “political vengeance,” but it serves as a stark reminder of the Democratic Party’s willingness to turn a blind eye to their representatives’ questionable activities.
