In a tragic incident, an 85-year-old woman in Florida was dragged to her death by a 10-foot-long alligator while walking her small dog.
It was a beautiful day in Florida, perfect for a stroll. Gloria Serge was walking her dog, Trooper, by a lake in the Spanish Lakes Fairways retirement community in Fort Pierce. But this leisurely walk would end in tragedy.
Out of nowhere, a huge 10-foot-long alligator swam towards Gloria and Trooper, and before they knew it, the gator had lunged at them. Gloria tried to save her beloved pet, but the alligator was too quick. In a terrifying moment, the alligator clamped its jaws down on Gloria and pulled her into the water.
The horrific incident was captured by a nearby wildlife camera. In the footage, we can see Gloria’s neighbor, Carole Thomas, running out to the lake in an attempt to save Gloria. Calling 911, Carole shouted in panic, “There’s a woman in the lake! The alligator’s got her!”
As Carole tried to help, she held out a pole for Gloria to grab onto. But unfortunately, her efforts were in vain. In despair, Carole cried out, “I think she’s gone, oh my God.”

Sadly, Gloria’s body was later found in the lake, and so was the alligator who was responsible for the attack. Local residents had named the gator ‘Henry’, and authorities captured and euthanized him.
Gloria is the third person to be killed by an alligator in Florida since July last year. It’s a startling statistic, but the likelihood of an unprovoked alligator attack is very low. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission states that “the likelihood of a Florida resident being seriously injured during an unprovoked alligator incident in Florida is roughly only one in 3.1 million.”
The death of Gloria Serge is a tragic event, and her family and friends are devastated. Carole Thomas spoke about the incident and said, “It’s horrible for her family. It’s just horrible, horrible. And her friends, I spoke to a couple of her friends yesterday who are devastated.”
