He Never Knew Where His Mom Went Every Christmas, Then A Letter Arrived After Her Death…

The majority of families consider Christmas Eve to be one of the most meaningful times of the year. We get together at this time of year to honor the people and relationships in our lives that are most important to us, such as our families and our closest friends. However, Christmas Eve was never a quiet evening in the Dorroh household; there was always something shady going on.

Year and year again, this pattern emerged and Johnny Dorroh couldn’t figure it out. But the mysterious letter finally revealed the answer to his mother’s secret.

63-year-old Susan Dorroh had been an organized woman in her adult life who would be done with her Christmas shopping even before Thanksgiving. So, when she left every Christmas eve for around three hours, her son, Johnny, was confused. He would ask his father who always said that she was probably out shopping. His father was suspicious as well but she always returned in a few hours.

Her son always heard her mutter something about running errands, and grabbing her car keys, before leaving. If he asked her where she was going, even though she hated going out on Christmas Eve, she would say, “errands or two. Be back soon.”

However, Johnny later realized that his father probably lied to him about his mother’s disappearance. As he grew older, he knew that it was very unlikely that his mother had forgotten to do something every Christmas Eve – and that it would always take three hours for her to do it. It was also very odd that she would forget anything at all during the holidays because she was the type of person to get most of her Christmas shopping done in August.

Although mom would mysteriously leave home every Christmas Eve, Johnny and his father would always ask her what she did. She never replied with a concrete answer, which left them wondering all the more.

It turned out that Susan was completing a very important mission every Christmas — and that it had to be done exactly on that day: she would visit Robert’s house, dressed as Mrs. Claus, and give his children presents they couldn’t afford!

Tears swelled in Johnny’s eyes as he read Robert’s heartfelt letter:

“Dear Johnny, I just wanted you to know how much my family and I appreciate what your mother has done for us for all of these years. Every year on Christmas Eve day, your mom comes to my house dressed like Mrs. Claus and gives my kids a Christmas that we can’t afford to give them. She has given them shoes, shirts, jeans, toys, and candy. I know your heart is heavy and that you are missing Miss Sue. We do, too. We loved her and just wanted you to know what she has done for us. Love, Robert and Nellie, and the kids.”

Indeed, Susan wasn’t the average human being — her huge heart appeared to come straight from heaven. She’d been doing this for Robert’s family year after year, bringing joy to their children until the end of her days.

Johnny couldn’t believe what he was reading. He’d always known that his mother was a wonderful woman, but had no idea she’d kept this precious secret all to herself, and for all those years.

In fact, Johnny realized just how much he’d been in the presence of an angel all those years.
