Discipline from parents frequently goes unheeded or is misinterpreted as idle threats. Even threats to deprive someone of their iPad for a month or put them to bed without any tea are occasionally received with an unfazed shrug.
This means, then, that you might be better off getting a bit creative – like this mom did.
In an effort to stop her kid from misbehaving, Becky Crandley made the decision to walk right into his school and gatecrash her kid’s math lesson.
Crandley, 30, received phone calls and emails about her son’s behavior — so she took matters into her own hands and joined Harley’s lesson at The Sittingbourne School in Kent, southeast England.
After a teacher told her about his disrespectful attitude at school — a problem which she had previously tried to remedy but to no avail. The mum-of-five decided to sit next to her 12-year-old son who is now in 7th grade and “had been showing signs of a bad attitude in the last academic year.” She hoped that her bold parenting move would teach the young boy a valuable lesson.
His “rudeness” persisted despite Becky Crandley‘s earlier warning to send him to school with her if he didn’t behave. She really received not one, but two emails from his teachers about two specific instances in which he had gotten into trouble. At that point, the irate mother made the decision to act independently. As part of a ‘surprise experiment’ on Friday 20 September 2019, Becky walked into the classroom and sat alongside her son.

Speaking to KentLive, she said: “It all started last year with his behaviour change, it’s part of growing up I think, but its his rudeness and disrespect I cannot stand.
“I have had phone call after phone call about his behaviour. He’s had an untold amount of detentions and isolations but nothing seemed to bother him.”
Crandley then spoke to the school and offered to come and sit with him in the last lesson of the day that Friday, which was math.
She added: “I constantly threatened that I’d sit with him in school if needed, and he always laughed it off. Since they’ve been back this year I’ve had several phone calls already.”
“So when his maths teacher emailed last week and said about an incident, I said to her I would join him. He didn’t have a clue, and he was very embarrassed for sure, I was introduced as his mum.”
Crandley also shared what had happened on Facebook, where she share her experience and urged other parents to speak up against disrespectful kids:
“Today’s children are getting worse by the second. I think more parents need to act upon their children’s behavior. It’s scary to think what we will leave behind one day,”
“Most people know I’m a big softy when it comes to my kids but I’m also straight up and try my hardest to teach them the right way in life.”
“One thing I will not tolerate is disrespect from my sons towards any woman and my eldest has been rude recently in secondary school towards his female teachers. His mummy bear has had enough for sure, my foot is down and I will not lose,
“If only I got a picture of his face when I walked in and sat down next to him, he went so red there’s nothing I can compare it to.”
