Greed is certainly part of the human condition. Whether it shows up in small ways or large, we all know what it’s like to struggle with the sin of gluttony.
Ultimately, however, you can’t take money with you when you die, so it’s better to use your finances for good while you’re here on earth. One man, however, didn’t understand this concept. He had an odd request at his funeral but luckily his wife was able to outsmart him in the end!
Whether this story is true or not, it’s gone viral on the internet. It’s no wonder so many people wanted to share this hilarious and pointed story – now more than ever, it seems we need to be reminded that we can’t take our money with us to the grave!
The man loved his money more than anything, not even his wife who patiently stood by his side all his life. His love for his money went as far as taking the cash with him to the grave.
Just before he died, the man asked his wife to grant his last wish. “Now listen, when I die I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. Because I want to take all my money to the afterlife,” the man said to his wife.
The wife was appalled by her husband’s selfish request but she was later convinced by her husband to agree to bury the money with him when he passed away.
One day, the man died and the wife was torn between granting her husband’s selfish last wish or keeping the money to herself. She was a woman of her word; although her husband was obviously egocentric, she did not want to break her promise.
Suddenly, a brilliant idea came to her mind.
At the funeral, the husband’s dead body was stretched out in the casket while his wife, who dressed up in all black was sitting next to her best friend. When it was time to bury the husband, the undertakers got ready to close the casket and the wife suddenly asked them to stop
“Wait a minute,” the wife said to the undertakers.
The wife then came over to the casket and placed a shoebox next to her dead husband’s body. She then nodded her head to the undertakers, a gesture to let the undertakers close the casket and bury him
Her best friend who knew about the ridiculous request was in disbelief at the wife’s action so she asked the wife about the shoebox. “‘I hope you weren’t crazy enough to put all that money in there with that stingy old man,’” the best friends told the wife.
The wife then turned to her best friend, “Yes, I promised. I’m a good Christian, I can’t lie. I promised him that I was to put that money in that casket with him.”
“‘You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?’” the friend asked.
“I sure did,” answered the wife. “I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a check.”
Brilliant! The wife did keep her promise to her selfish husband while keeping the money to herself. Let us hope that the husband could cash the cheque in the afterlife!
