They Were Holding A Funeral For Their Dog, And Then Made An Absolutely Startling Discovery…

A dog-loving woman thought she had bid farewell to her beloved pet, until one day…

26-year-old Cody Hutton was driving through the town of Woodbridge and decided to stop to let her nine-year-old dog, springer spaniel, Maisie rest. When the woman opened the door to let the pet out on a leash, fireworks suddenly started. Maisie was frightened, broke off the leash, and ran away.

The woman searched for the dog for three hours. Then a whole group came to her aid. After a long search that continued the next day, the dog’s owner and her father decided to camp at the last place they saw Maisie, in the hope that she would return there.

Soon they received a phone call and were informed that the crushed body of a dog had been found on the road. “From the tail and the markings on the paws, we were sure it was her,” Hutton said. She clarified that the microchip was not found in the body of the deceased dog, but the owners were sure that it was their pet. The inconsolable family buried the dog near their home in the village of Crawfield.

But the next morning, the owners were shocked when they called again and said that they had seen Maisie. Since the veterinarian was not sure if the dead animal was a dog or a fox, the search continued. Five days later, the dog was caught outside an elementary school in the village of Wickham Market.

Hutton hurried to the location of the discovery of the pet and saw Maisie in the arms of her father. The dog could not contain his excitement. She writhed and whimpered in order to reunite with her beloved mistress as soon as possible. “I thought she was gone, that I would never see her again. I still can’t believe this is my Maisie,” she said.

The dog was tired and hungry, but otherwise unharmed, escaping with only a small infection. In five days the dog covered about 30 kilometers.

After being reunited, Hutton posted an update on Facebook, where she had originally sought help, writing: “MAISIE! I have my baby back. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH EVERYONE OMFG!

“PLEASE DONATE AND FOLLOW FIDO LOST DOGS WHO ASSISTED ME ON THIS HEARTBREAKING BUT HAPPY ENDING JOURNEY.”

In a later post, she added: “She is doing GREAT! Happy, healthy and back to her cheeky self!”

With local Sam French – who runs voluntary group FIDO (or ‘Finding Ipswich Dogs Organisation) – a huge hero in the operation, Hutton has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the cause.
