TikTok fans are sharply split about a new life tip for keeping cucumbers fresh.
As we all knew the best way to keep cucumbers fresh, is to store cucumbers in the refrigerator. And consume the cucumbers within seven to ten days of buying them at a grocery shop or farmers market for the best flavor and freshness. However, a new life hack from Tiktok from a username @mamaiamhungry1 who demonstrates in her video how to preserve cucumbers so they stay fresh after you’ve used some but still want to conserve the rest.
Cucumbers are a vegetable from the Cucurbitaceae family of plants. The vegetables which originated in South Asia grow on a vine, are cylindrical and are available year-round. Cucumbers, or cukes as they are more commonly known, have a high water content of 95%, which gives these veggies a crunchy texture and fresh flavor. Vitamins A and C are found in cucumbers, and nutritional fiber is found in the skins. Foods like cucumbers have few calories.
Now, the video starts off with @mamaiamhungry1 cutting up some cucumber. As she cuts the veggie, the TikToker makes a point of conserving the top portion. After cutting as much as she needs to, she uses a toothpick to fix the top slice.
The TikTok user wrote as a caption for the now-viral video, “Did you know this kitchen hack, by the way?”
Hoping that her content would go viral, (which it did) The person then crossed her fingers. As hundreds of thousands of times over, the clip seemed to baffle some TikTok users, who questioned why the hack was even necessary.
The following are some of the comments made by viewers who were moved to make a statement about this cucumber preservation trick.
“Why would I need this,” one person inquired.
“To keep it fresh,” the maker of the original video replied.
The original poster added, “Oh great,” hinting that this approach would also be good to keep cucumbers fresh as someone else suggested, “Try standing up on a plate and refrigerating it.”
“You still have to cut the end off. Plastic wrap and a rubber band. Or just eat the whole thing,” one person wrote.
Writing, “Oh yes. Sometimes you can’t eat the whole thing,” the original video creator replied.
Believing that it was not necessary to produce and upload this film to the well-known Chinese platform that is dominating the internet, others simply slammed the video. With one person complained, “There is literally no need for this.”
Some others did, however, express their love for this cooking trick. Saying, “Love this! I put cucumber in my water!”
Suggesting there was no need for it, others were not so happy about the tip. Others, however, disagree and think that in keeping their cucumbers fresh as they prepare in the kitchen, this advice could assist more people.
