We all love a feel-good story, and given how life has been handing most of us so many lemons, we thought this awesome story from 2015 would be just what everyone needs to lift their spirits! Kindness comes in many forms and sometimes it takes kindness from a stranger to change our lives.
When Casey Fischer decided to stop at a Dunkin Donuts before going to class one morning, she didn’t know that something was about to happen that would change her outlook on life. She noticed a homeless man outside picking up change on the sidewalk and followed him in.
In line, she started talking to the man, named Chris, and noticed he was trying to count out enough change to buy himself something to eat.
She bought him a bagel and some coffee and asked if he would sit with her, so they could eat together. They spent some time talking together before Casey had to leave to get to class.
“He told me a lot about how people are usually very mean to him because he’s homeless, how drugs turned him into the person he hated, he lost his mom to cancer, he never knew his dad and he just wants to be someone his mom would be proud of,” Casey wrote in a Facebook post, detailing over an hour’s worth of conversation she had with the “lovely” man named Chris.
Before Casey left, Chris gave her a crumpled-up note with a message she couldn’t believe. It certainly wasn’t the thanks she expected.
“Chris was one of the most honest & sincere people I’ve ever met,” Casey continued, but sadly, their time together was drawing to an end.
It wasn’t until later that she read the note. She instantly broke down. Just by talking to this man and buying him a small meal, she had saved his life.
“‘I wanted to kill myself today because of u I now do not. Thank u, beautiful person.’”
Casey proves there are good people in the world. It must’ve been some kind of fate that brought her to Chris that day.
Casey’s story goes to show how effective a simple kind gesture can be. As the old saying goes, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
