Businesses take a lot of care in catering to customers and clients, avoiding offending them at nearly any cost. In the case of Jeff Anon, the CEO of Berryhill Baja Grill restaurants in Houston decided to take action against those who believe that they can control everyone else’s speech. According to ABC News, Anon was feeling quite fed up with how sensitive everyone has become.
“I just got tired of all the news of everybody having to be politically correct,” Berryhill Baja Grill CEO Jeff Anon told ABC News.
That is why Anon posted a sign on each of the nine company-owned Berryhill Baja Grill restaurants in Texas locations, the signs read:
“Notice. This store is politically incorrect. We say Merry Christmas. God bless America. We salute our flag and give thanks to our troops, police officers and firefighters. If this offends you, you are welcome to leave. In God we trust,” and warning customer that if they don’t like it, they were free to leave.
Anon said the last straw for him to be fed up with what he believed to be anti-Christmas sentiments around the holiday- was Starbucks’ decision to put out generic red cups.
“There’s nothing wrong with saying ‘Merry Christmas’ in lieu of ‘Happy Holidays.’ When people say ‘Merry Christmas,’ they’re being nice,” Anon said, adding that he’s Jewish. “They’re not trying to be politically incorrect or have religious beliefs.”
“Some people say you shouldn’t take religion into the workplace,” Anon furthered before explaining, “We’re not trying to bring religion into the workplace. It has nothing to do with religion. It’s the spirit of the holidays.”
The CEO of the restaurant claims that several signage has vanished from establishments, allegedly taken by offended patrons. But the staff will quickly replace any notices that have been torn down.
“I’d say for everyone who felt it wasn’t appropriate, probably 10 to 20 who…supported it,” Anon said, acknowledging that there have been some complaints.
In the spirit of Christmas and religion, however, many people have retweeted or reposted the banner on social media to express their support for the restaurant’s anti-politically correct goal.
Anon says customers have even asked for a copy of the sign that they could take home with them.
“The outpouring of support has been absolutely terrific. We’re actually getting a lot of requests from people to get the sign,” Anon said
Wishing someone well by saying Merry Christmas or God bless is not an insult the appropriate answer to such a greeting is not to be offended by it but to just respond, “Thank you,” It’s time to be unapologetic when we aren’t doing anything that worthy of apologizing for. It’s nice to see someone like Anon taking a stand against those who are hyper-sensitive and so easily offended.
