The 37-year-old man accused of smearing human feces on an unsuspecting subway rider in February may be permanently disfigured after a fellow inmate threw boiling water into his face at Rikers Island.
Police arrested Frank Abrokwa and charged him with forcible touching, menacing and disorderly conduct, and harassment in mid-February.
The incident happened Monday, February 21 at 5:15 p.m. at the East 241st Street Station in the Bronx. Surveillance video captured Abrokwa allegedly defecating in a bag before approaching a 43-year-old woman seated on a bench and “striking her in the face and back of the head with human feces,” Minutes before walking away, Abrokwa continues to punch the woman.
According to police sources, Abrokwa has 44 prior arrests, one felony conviction, and 10 misdemeanor convictions. Authorities claim that Abrokwa has a history of assaults involving transit. He is accused of punching a 30-year-old guy on the subway platform at the Lenox Avenue/125th Street station in Harlem on January 7.
Additionally, he is accused of punching a 53-year-old at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. He was also arrested on February 22, when police say he was stopped while attempting to rob a hardware store in the Bronx with some screwdrivers and pepper spray,
However, after being attacked with boiling water by another prisoner in the Anna M. Kross Correctional Facility, Abrokwa is expected to have lifelong facial scarring, jail sources said.
“He didn’t deserve it but if anyone was going to get burned, he would be the first one in line,” the source said.
The source also noted that following the incident, the attacker ironically who goes by the last name “Burns,” was relocated to a different housing area.
Abrokwa was on bail at Rikers Island where he allegedly damaged a glass window with a dumbbell at the Treasure Island Storage Facility in Harlem.
