Obama Went There And Now It Is A COVID HOTSPOT!

There has been a surge in Martha’s Vineyard cases approximately two weeks after former President Barack Obama hosted a 60th birthday bash on the island.

Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, state health officials have not necessarily pinpointed the spread of the outbreak to Former President Obama’s 60th birthday gala, but there is no question that the timing is pretty obvious for sure.

The Details

The Virginia Gazette wrote a report this week that there were a record amount of individuals showing up at Martha’s Vineyard emergency rooms, and that they were basically “jam-packed.” Indeed, this health facility is grappling with the largest number of COVID-19 patients since this pandemic started.

There was a press briefing on Wednesday where hospital officials said that three patients are currently hospitalized with the virus, and a fourth patient is not in the hospital but is being monitored for COVID-like symptoms. A fifth COVID patient was in critical condition and had to be airlifted to Boston last week.

“This is the highest amount of COVID-positive patient activity that we’ve had since the onset of the pandemic,” chief nurse and head of hospital operations Clair Seguin said.

Hospital Present and CEO Denise Schepici added that this sharp rise in COVID-19 cases came at a time where their facility was already busy in the first place.

“We’re bursting at the seams,” she said. “We’re hoping there will be a reprieve in September. But that’s a prayer right now.”

The healthcare professional added that the hospital was now having to turn patients away unless they were feeling “really, really sick” and think that the issue they are having is an emergency.”

The Background

The hospital also noted that this increase in hospitalizations came after Martha’s Vineyard had experienced a dramatic uptick in COVID-19 cases in their area, including in Dukes County, which is where Martha’s Vineyard. The whole county had experienced a 1,350% uptick in new cases as of last week.

Even with the spike in new infections, Obama still has his apologists. Janet Hathaway is the assistant to the Edgartown Board of Health, and she said that it is “too early to tell” if the large birthday bash the Obamas threw is the culprit or not.

After mounting criticism ahead of their party, the Obamas did ultimately decide to “significantly scale down” the celebration, which was originally supposed to have as many as 500 guests and a staff of 200. That’s 700 individuals who could either potentially receive – or potentially pass on – the COVID-19 virus, folks!

While I will certainly give the Obamas credit for “scaling it down”, there were some leaked photos of this downsized party that showed plenty of massive tents constructed to house the lineup of celebrity guests that had attended the party at Obama’s immense waterfront estate.

Obama’s version of “close family and friends” still reads as a literal who’s who among Hollywood and the arts, with such names as Beyonce, Eddie Vedder, Jay-Z, Tom Hanks, NBA star Dwayne Wade, Stephen Curry, Don Cheadle, Stephen Colbert, and Jennifer Hudson among many others. They even had John Kerry fly in on his private jet!

There were several social media posts that showed Obama completely devoid of a mask along with the other guests enjoying themselves at the party until it concluded at just after midnight.

A Martha’s Vineyard police officer said that he thought that the band of celebrities leaving Obama’s estate resulted in a total traffic “s****show.” Those are HIS words, not mine.
