While Antifa Protested These Brave Cops, What Happened Next Was Unbelievable!
A few weeks ago, Oakland lawmakers voted to slash funding from the Oakland Police Department. However, one Oakland reporter is witnessing something that can only be described as a “surreal” moment in the city as of last Saturday – black families were rallying not on behalf of the ANTIFA goons, but they were rallying in support of the police. On the other hand, the ANTIFA group was rallying against police even though they themselves are mostly white.
The Details
Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong and other community leaders are leading the charge, with the battle cry coming from city residents that are angry over the rise in violent crime. The event was called “Stand Up For a Safe Oakland”.
Journalist Lee Fang of The Intercept wrote about the surreal moment when he witnessed the phenomenon.
“Surreal moment in Oakland. About 200 mostly black families rally with police to call for an end to the epidemic of gun violence. Mothers at the stage mourning recently murdered children. In the back, less than a dozen mostly white antifa protesters assembled to jeer them,” Fang reported.
One particularly interesting video of the encounter occurred right after the ANTIFA goons falsely accused all of the violence on nothing but police alone. Several older black individuals confronted them and the same as told them that they were liars.
“No!!!” one woman screamed.
“That’s a lie, that’s a lie,” a nearby black man said.
“Dramatic confrontation before I got there,” Fang explained, describing the encounters. “A lot of the anti-violence activists from East Oakland said they were disappointed in the white anti-police Antifa protesters, said they seemed close minded and disconnected from the actual violence in the city.”
Armstrong also addressed the Antifa protesters in his remarks at the rally.
“You can shout from wherever you come from,” he said. “It don’t matter to me because I’ve lost people as a result of gun violence. So you can’t tell me what this day is about.”
“The fact of the matter is, far too many people are afraid to come outside,” Armstrong said. “Our seniors can’t walk to the store. Young people are dying at an alarming rate. If you can’t stand up for safe Oakland, what do you stand up for?”
Why did city leaders slash funding?
Oakland is run by a Democratic city council and a Democratic mayor. With that in mind, part of the reason that they decided to slash funding for the police is that they wanted to direct it “toward other programs, such as affordable housing and our homeless population.”
However, the mayor of Oakland opposed the plan, saying that we are “just losing too many to gun violence to not help our police out.” He definitely supported these black families when they protested, that is for sure.
