A Michigan teen has just passed away just three days after he received the last dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and now investigators are examining the situation to see if there is any possible correlation between the teen’s death and the vaccine.
The teen died a few weeks ago in Saginaw County, Michigan, and it was only three days after he had received the vaccine, according to Booth Newspapers.
The county medical examiner notified the Saginaw County Health Department of the teenager’s death on the 17th of June.
“When an adolescent loses their life for any reason it is heartbreaking,” the health department said when they released their statement.
“Health Officer Chris Harrington, MPH, and medical director Delicia Pruitt, MD, are both parents of children that are near this boy’s age, so this really hits close to home for both of them.”
They reported the teen’s death to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System because they thought the timing was odd and it warranted further investigation.
Saginaw County Health Department officials continue to gather as much information as possible regarding this event and they are dedicated to passing along a thorough report to CDC investigators, as noted by WDIV-TV.
After analyzing the report, the CDC will make a full determination whether the death was related to the vaccine.
Last May, the CDC released new guidelines that recommended that everyone over 12 years of age receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This is probably one of the main reasons why over 328,000 Michigan teens have not only received the first dose but over 265,000 have received the second dose as well. There have been 141,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among those aged 19 and younger and 16 of those cases have resulted in death.
Michigan’s health department continues to encourage families to talk to their physicians about the risks and benefits of vaccination for all of their family members, according to WEYI-TV.
However, Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue during a Newsmax interview last Friday, and he said that “young people shouldn’t get” the COVID-19 vaccine because they have “very strong” immune systems.
“I don’t think that young people should get it and I think that everyone should have the freedom in getting it if they want. They can’t be forced because they do have rights,” he said.
“I don’t think young people – you know, the thing with young people is that their immune system is very strong…you can look at – there’s one area where 35,000 people died in a certain state but they didn’t have nobody below the age of, I think, 16, that had died. They had one person that I think had a serious condition, a pre-condition.”
Trump added, “So I just really don’t feel that young people need to get it. They just don’t need the vaccine.”
