One of the greatest thrills of my life has been my yearly pilgrimage to Coachella. Every day of the year is nothing more to me than one less day until I travel to California for those glorious few days.
You have to admit, it is a pretty liberating feeling driving somewhere knowing that the only thing you have to do once you get there is to listen to some music and have a great time.
Unfortunately, the last couple of years haven’t been nearly as kind to the tens of thousands of us that have made that shared expedition to the festival. COVID, for one thing, has been a pretty damn hard kick in the teeth in terms of live events. Hell, the largest gathering I have been to in the past year and a half was when my apartment complex had a fire on one of the upper floors and we all had to evacuate the building for an hour and stand in the parking lot.
That being said, one of the shining beacons of more and more people getting the vaccine and things slowly returning to normal is that promoters of all events large and small are beginning to get more and more comfortable with staging live events again.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel, and for this music lover, that tunnel leads to Coachella.
After much planning and rescheduling, Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has finally and officially locked in dates for 2022.
Weekend one takes place over April 15 – 17 and weekend two over April 22 – 24 as the iconic music festival returns to Indio, California for the first time since 2019. Advance tickets for Coachella go on sale this Friday.
In addition to the announcement below, Coachella reassures 2020 ticketholders via tweet, “orders will automatically be good for the weekend you’ve purchased and you’ll be sent new wristbands for 2022.”
The 2020 lineup, which headlined Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean, was put on hold due to the pandemic. Calvin Harris, Flume, Disclosure, Louis the Child and many more were also scheduled to perform.
