Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) is back up to her old tricks again. Apparently, she is now comparing the United States and Israel to Taliban and Hamas terrorists!
Hamas is a Gaza-based terrorist group, and it is officially classified by our government to be a “foreign terrorist organization.” On the other hand, even though Taliban soldiers continue to terrorize Afghanistan they technically are not classified as a terrorist group by the United States.
Omar has made a name for herself as one of the most far-left members of the U.S. Congress. She claimed that Afghanistan, the Taliban, and Hamas have committed “unthinkable atrocities”, but along with that she also claimed that there were a number of human rights abuses from the United States as well. We will agree with the former, but as conservatives, we vehemently disagree with the latter.
The context of some of Ilhan Omar’s inflammatory claims also included questioning Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday about how the human rights abuses will be held accountable, especially because the U.S. Government opposes the International Criminal Court, the global tribunal that is responsible for prosecuting war crimes.
Why in the world that Omar invoked the U.S. in her tweet and lumped them and Israel in with known terrorists is unclear and very puzzling. It’s almost like she is making a subtle public accusation that the U.S. is guilty of being a terrorist. Although Omar did not elaborate on what crimes against humanity she thinks the United States has committed, she did not cite the U.S. at all when she questioned Secretary of State Blinken.
What About Israel?
When you consider the military tensions during Israel and Gaza last month – which actually started when Hamas terrorists were launching rockets from Gaza into Israel – it is even more puzzling that Omar would accuse Israel, no less, of being the one who is committing war crimes. It seems to any casual observer that it would be the other way around.
“We need accountability for every war crime committed. And we need to stop underwriting crimes against humanity while doing nothing to end the occupation,” Omar said.
Omar also criticized President Joe Biden for moving forward with an arms sale to Israel, saying, “The United States should not stand idly by while crimes against humanity are being committed, and with our backing too.”
Even though there were accusations of war crimes, human rights abuse, and even several claims that Israel is attempting to create an “apartheid” state, they still take special precautions to prevent civilian casualties during military campaigns against Hamas, even if it means calling off military strikes in order to save innocent lives.
One of the main reasons why non-Gaza residents are killed is because when military tensions flare up, it can lead to Hamas working in residential areas. They know that by launching their weapons from these areas, it can cause their civilians to be more likely to become casualties, thus helping their response. Simply put, the Hamas group is ALLOWING their civilians to become casualties so that it can help their cause.
