Joe Biden has come out with new rules for colleges, and needless to say, it is going to make conservatives and evangelicals furious. This rule states that religious schools must open their dormitories and make them completely co-ed, meaning that members of the opposite sex will be privy to everything, including bedrooms and shower spaces. Unfortunately, one Christian college attempted to bypass these rules, but a federal judge was having none of it.
Judge Roseann Ketchmark issued this ruling last Wednesday, and she denied the College of the Ozarks a temporary restraining order from this new rule. Additionally, the judge wouldn’t even issue a temporary injunction to give this school protection from this ridiculous rule!
The College of the Ozarks filed a lawsuit last April saying that the Biden Administration was trying to force religious schools such as theirs to violate their personal beliefs by opening up all-female dormitories to biological males and vice-versa. This was done under the threat of punitive damages, attorney fees, and of course six-figure fines.
Indeed, President Joe Biden issued an executive order titled, “Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation” that put a directive forward based on this administration’s flawed view of the words “gender” and “sex.”
The school filed a lawsuit in April arguing that the Biden administration was forcing religious schools to violate their beliefs by opening up female dormitories to biological males, and vice-versa, under the subject of punitive damages, six-figure fines, and attorneys’ fees.
One of the most flawed concepts that this gender promotes would be that organizations covered by the Fair Housing Act are not allowed to discriminate against someone based on gender identity or sexual orientation. This means that someone who is biologically male but identifies as a female should be able to use the female dorm. Again, this opens up a seriously problematic can of worms.
“The government is overreaching here. They cannot and should not force any school to open girls’ dorms to males based on a politically motivated and strange redefinition of ‘sex’,” Alliance Defending Freedom lawyer Julie Marie Blake said regarding this lawsuit. This religious liberty law firm is representing this school in their legal fight against the Biden Administration.
“We shouldn’t force women to share private spaces—including showers and dormitories—with males, and presidential administration shouldn’t force religious schools to do something like this against their personal beliefs,” she added.
The College of the Ozarks has always stood out as a private, Christian, liberal arts college in Point Lookout, Missouri. It was founded more than a century ago, but it still believes that biological sex is assigned by God and cannot be changed. President Jerry Davis acknowledged that they were “disappointed” by the ruling, but they would still appeal the ruling as much as they possibly could. IT’s good to see that they are not done fighting for traditional values.
