You’ve got to hand it to firefighters. They definitely have a difficult job, and in the case of one El Paso woman, they ended up making a very gruesome discovery when she awoke to find blood being splattered on top of her and coming from her ceiling and dripping off of her fan.
Ana Cardenas was totally distraught when she called 911 from her El Paso apartment.
She told KTSM-TV that she had been sleeping when she was awakened at about four in the morning by something dripping on her, the bed, and the rest of her bedroom. She quickly discovered that it was human blood and other types of body fluids dripping from her ceiling and fan. Needless to say, she was in shock.
“It grossed me out and it scared the crap out of me. I kept thinking that this isn’t real, this has to be a dream, but I never woke up,” she said with the aid of a Spanish translator. “I called maintenance and they asked me if I was sure and I just told them yes, blood is falling on me.”
Cardenas said that the man was probably between the ages of 55 and 70, and the first responders eventually determined that the man had died of natural causes.
Authorities believe that the man may have been decomposing for as long as six days. Cardenas said that the man had been laying on his carpet and that the blood had ultimately seeped through it and even came through his floor and into her apartment below him.
“These firefighters had to take my ceiling fan down and when they did that a huge amount of that man’s blood came falling down,” Cardenas said.
The story is already morbid enough, but it’s about to get even worse.
She told KTSM that the Cielo Vista Apartments said that her losses were not going to be covered by their insurance. Yes, they did disinfect her apartment, but there were flies running rampant in her bedroom and there was still a foul odor throughout the unit.
Cardenas is very traumatized by the incident, and she is having a difficult time eating or sleeping. Due to her encountering this bloody ceiling, Cardenas established a GoFundMe to help her with her GoFundMe expenses, and so far she has raised over $15,000.
