One 10-year-old boy has made an impassioned speech to his local school board regarding the mask mandate. He wanted to see them end it, and luckily for all of us his speech was recorded. Not only that, but it went viral as well.
This boy was addressing an emergency meeting of the Martin County School Board in Florida, and he was calling out the hypocrisy of adults that will flout the same rules that are imposed on kids.
The Details
“I had expected school to be a little bit different in the beginning, but I didn’t think it was going to be this way the whole year,” the fourth-grade student known only as John began. “I was surprised by these rules. There were a lot of these rules that didn’t make any sense to me, like the fact that we weren’t able to have student council or play on the playground, or even be able to turn to face each other at lunch. We also needed to wear masks outside on the track and at PE.”
John also pointed out during his speech that he has seen several instances where the teachers themselves were breaking the mask requirements. There was one teacher who was yelling at the kids for pulling down their masks just to drink outside while they were waiting for their parents to pick them up!
“This teacher had her mask down the entire time that she was yelling at us, and that makes me and my friends mad,” John explained.
“This happens all the time,” John continued. “It seems unfair that teachers can take their masks off while they yell at us kids but we have to always pull ours up. I talked about it with my mom and asked her what this means, and she said it means that it is hypocrisy.”
The boy said that he actually ran into his own teacher outside of the school and “she didn’t recognize me at all because I wear my mask and she’s never seen my face. I knew that it was her because she is always sitting at her desk without her mask on.”
John continued the speech. “I know that the reason my teacher doesn’t wear a mask is that she has asthma, and that’s her choice, but it should be my choice too.”
“I have allergies and it makes me feel really anxious to have my face covered, but I’m not allowed a break from my mask like she is,” he argued. “I don’t think that it’s fair. All of this doesn’t seem fair and none of it makes any sense.”

BizPac Review reported that this brave ten-year-old boy made this speech with just twelve days left in the school year, and he was hoping that the school board would lift their mask mandates for the rest of the year. Unfortunately, the boy was out of luck; the board voted 4-1 to keep the mask mandate in place until after school let out for the summer. He still made a gallant effort and seems wise beyond his years.
