Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has continued to face mounting backlash and criticism for her inept handling of the pandemic. There are several voters and prominent state residents who have accused her of abusing her authority. She became well-known for instituting some of the strictest rules and guidelines in the country in regards to the pandemic, but now the rest of the Michigan state officials are starting to have second thoughts about how well she handled the pandemic. Hence, the reason why Gretcher Witch-mer (see what I did there?) is now being served with a subpoena by the Michigan Senate. Most followers of politics are aware of Andrew Cuomo’s COVID leadership issues in New York state, but apparently Whitmer is about to have her own problems as well.
According to the Daily Wire, “Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer may be forced to turn over documents relating to her nursing home policy in the wake of the COVID-19 nursing home crisis. According to the Detroit News Oversight Chairman Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan) has requested these documents as of March 2nd. However, he and the rest of the GOP state officials have not receive any type of answer whatsoever.”
This could be bad news for Whitmer, as it was for her New York counterpart. You see, the Michigan GOP vehemently disagreed with Whitmer’s decision to send COVID patients back to the nursing homes. Instead, they thought they should go to a separate facility. This didn’t happen though, and now state officials want answers. However, they are running into some serious roadblocks from Governor Whitmer, who is claiming that she is “exempt” from Freedom of Information laws. Even so, there is no question that this needs to happen. The residents of Michigan deserve to know if the decisions of their governor had put them in harm’s way. Will the courts agree? Only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. In the opinion of many, she hasn’t been that good of a governor.
What do you think about this issue from Governor Witch-mer? Your comments would be appreciated!
