Comedian Dave Chappelle is an individual who is hardly known as a bastion of conservatism. However, he recently blasted “woke” culture and the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in a recent podcast. He was commenting on the show’s decision to tap Elon Musk to have a turn at hosting the comedy show and how some cast members were upset about it.
It wasn’t immediately clear why some of the SNL cast members and writers would have a problem with allowing Elon Musk to host the show. Page Six did report that the brass at NBC would ensure that those who are “triggered” by Elon Musk wouldn’t have to work with him. Instead, they would get a “safe space”, if you will.
“From a historical standpoint, if there was a cast member that had been that unhappy, they won’t have to appear with the person hosting,” a source said to Page Six. “Lorne (the SNL boss) has a policy not to make them do something they would rather not do,”
Just What Exactly Did Chappelle Say?
Dave Chappelle spoke candidly with Joe Rogan over the cast’s outrage over Musk and that’s when this legendary made a rather telling observation: for the left, “no one can be woke enough.”
“I’m torn,” Dave Chappelle continued. “I do like a warrior for a good cause, but I’m also really into tactics. That’s why I also believe that you cannot just nag people into behaving a certain way. You will either turn them off or end up getting yourself to where you are very hard to hear, even if you are right.”
Rogan had to agree. “No one is woke enough.”
Additionally, both of these gentlemen had to agree that they were confused over just why the “SNL” cast would be upset over Musk in the first place. They speculated that perhaps it was due to him being the richest man in the world or maybe it was because he was continually analyzing the COVID-19 pandemic from a factual and not emotional perspective.
This led Rogan to theorize that perhaps woke culture not only isn’t tolerant, but the ideology comes from an element of intolerance itself!
“Furthermore, I think that the people that are complaining that he is going to be on Saturday Night Lives are the ones who want someone to be 100% compliant with whatever ideology they might be a part of – and that includes any the fact that any deviation from that would be problematic for them,” Rogan said.
Of course, this hasn’t been the first time that Dave Chappelle has been targeted by the “woke” crowd. It happened to him for the first time in 2019 when he had just finished releasing his comedy special “Sticks & Stones” where he mocked the politically correct agenda that is so common within the Left.
Even though he was criticized at the time, Chappelle simply mocked the critics right back. Additionally, he made it clear that he wasn’t going to acquiesce to their demands.
“I’m not saying that political correctness doesn’t have its place,” Dave Chappelle said. “All of us want to live in a polite society. However, we all need to work on the levels of what that means in agreeing with each other what that looks like. Why should I be afraid of other people’s freedom of expression? I don’t use it as a weapon. I’m sorry if I hurt anybody, et cetera, et cetera, yada, yada, yada, everything that I’m supposed to say.”
