A New York Times report came out in the last couple of days that sheds some interesting light on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and his nursing homes scandal. Apparently, his coverup of the mishandling of the situation was worse than previously thought.
They published the bombshell report last Wednesday, and it relied on several new documents and interviews obtained by New York City’s leading newspaper.
Just as some background, Cuomo faced an immense amount of criticism when he made the order in March 2020 to send coronavirus patients to go to nursing home to receive treatment. Even though officials admitted that thousands had died after the governor made that order, we come to find out now that even that was underreported by these manipulative goons.
The shocking expose’ by the Times actually exacerbated the report even further because it brought up some of the serious sexual harassment allegations that Governor Cuomo has been plagued with.
Back to the nursing home story, however. Apparently, aides to the governor started to cover up the true number of coronavirus deaths that had occurred in these nursing homes. Indeed, they kept them from state medical officials for as long as five months! Additionally, there was even a report released to the public that made the state of New York APPEAR to have LESS coronavirus deaths because they counted the rate they found in the nursing homes in a misleading manner!
Interestingly enough, it was during this same time that Governor Cuomo was actively promoting his new book, which was lauding his “leadership” during the coronavirus pandemic in his state. Apparently it was nothing more than a solid propaganda piece even though the book was a bestseller, but I digress.
There was a devastating report to go along with these new revelations that had a more accurate number of the deaths. However, this was never sent, and there were other reports that were for state officials and lawmakers that were never sent either.
New York State Attorney General Letitia James is now investigating the nursing home scandal along with the accusations of sexual harassment. The New York State Assembly is doing impeachment inquiries against Cuomo as well.
Governor Cuomo’s Reply
An attorney for Governor Cuomo issued a response to the report done by the Times and downplayed the significance of the piece.
“This whole brouhaha has been completely overblown,” Cuomo attorney Elkan Abramowitz said. “There are cynical suggestions that have been offered, but the plain and simple truth is that the chamber only wanted to release accurate information that was totally unassailable.”
“The chamber never really felt that the numbers they were getting from the D.O.H. were accurate,” he added tersely.
Finally, Abramowitz said that the failure to report death statistics didn’t have anything to do with the book Cuomo had been hawking at the time.
I don’t know about you, but it sure seems that this Abramowitz guy is a whiz at damage control!
