Holy Cow! The Biden Team Just Walked It All Back!

It looks like the White House might be walking back a couple of Joe Biden’s campaign promises. There was a conversation with Politico where a member of the Biden team said that the administration decided that they didn’t want to move forward with their plans to create an organization that would engage in national police oversight.

Domestic Policy Czar Susan Rice Informed Politico of their decision in a statement.

“Based on some of our close and respectful consultation with some of the partners in the civil rights community, we have elected to shelve the police commission at this time. We believe that this would not be the most effective way to deliver on our top priorities in this area, and a better strategy would be to sign the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law,” the statement said.

This means that the White House is currently “working with Congress so that they can swiftly enact some meaningful law enforcement reform that will enable profound, urgently needed change,” Rice concluded.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act is just one of the many underhanded ways that the Democrats are seeking to defund the police.

“There are many unfunded mandates in their bill, H.R. 1280, and they would cost police departments a hundred million dollars or more. Indeed, it would be the equivalent of taking 3,000 cops or more off of our streets. Our men and women in law enforcement deserve much better than this dystopian law,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in his statement.

Jason Smith is a ranking member on the Budget Committee, and he joined the growing chorus of those expressing their concern regarding the bill in a letter sent to Congressional Budget Office Director Phillip Swagel.

“It has come to our attention that H.R. 1280 will contain some provisions that will significantly violate the current Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995 (UMRA) and their stated threshold of $85 million,” the letter said. “Furthermore, it is also our understanding that these provisions will result in many different additional costs to our state, local, and tribal governments resulting in a tremendous fortune, as high as hundreds of millions of dollars. These localities would be deprived of some very necessary resources and other community public safety services.”

Of course, the fact that Joe Biden is walking back his promise should not come as a shock to anyone. Naturally, it doesn’t matter what decision the Biden team will make, because their actions (or lack thereof) are simply making the situation worse. They are not looking at the policing situation objectively. Rather than realizing that these situations can only be solved by more training and more funding, they are just making it harder for the police to do their jobs.
