Folks, I remember when I was a kid and would go on field trips that there was a Jewish kid that was in our class.
Whenever there was a field trip where they found out that there was going to be lunch provided the mom would always call ahead.
The reason being is that the family kept kosher and being the only Jewish kid in our class they probably didn’t pay attention to whether or not they were packing ham sandwiches for everyone on the trip. If it were a trip where that happened the mom did something that most parents today would find completely outrageous.
She packed him a lunch, told the teacher in advance and she would place his brought along lunch in the cooler with the others. When it was time to eat lunch, he got his, we got ours, we all had a good time at the planetarium and someone got an extra ham sandwich. That my friends, was the beginning, middle and END of the issue.
One family is fuming after they discovered what their daughter was served for lunch at her elementary school.
Going against the family’s Muslim beliefs, the child was served pork at lunchtime, after the family specifically informed the school that the family does not eat that type of meat. When the Holaway Elementary School initially received the doctors’ note explaining the child’s beliefs, they were accommodating, until they served the girl a bacon cheeseburger.
According to the girl’s mom, Nancy, the lunch lady wasn’t very empathetic…
And while the school made a mistake, it was actually the principal’s reaction that really made Nancy upset.
“The principal had said because she didn’t wear the traditional clothes and because she’s just a white girl that was going there she didn’t fit that normal stereotype of being Muslim — so it wasn’t obvious for them to follow the guidelines for her,” said Nancy, who wasn’t happy with the explanation.
Nancy ended up letting the situation go, but several months after the incident, her daughter came home with a cereal bar that contained gelatin which is a byproduct of pork. When the school asked her why she didn’t send the girl to school with her own approved food, Nancy told them that she wanted her daughter to be able to fit in and not feel left out.
In response to Nancy’s outrage about the pork products, the Amphitheater Unified School District made the following statement:
“Even though the district is not required to accommodate special dietary needs based solely on religious purposes, our district nutritionist and food services staff plan menus that are compliant and meet the various nutritional guidelines, as well as include food options that are the best fit for the food preferences of the school. We encourage families with children with any special dietary needs to make sure they are educating their children about what to look for so they know what is acceptable and what they should avoid. Our menus are always posted online and you can request the ingredient list for any food item you are unsure about. In situations where there are special food requirements or restrictions, we encourage you to meet with our district nutritionist to discuss the best options for your family. The best way to ensure a meal meets any special dietary needs is to send a meal from home that you have prepared. Every child is different and we do our best to ensure a healthy, accommodating environment for all of our students.”
Sorry gang, but I don’t give a rat’s A*ss if some so called faith’s do not allow for an x,y or z sandwich!! If you are here in the USA, sorry but you should “NOT” get preferential treatment just because of some belief system. Like they said in the beginning, if a parent(s) want little johnny or susie to have special diets, then fine, make them up and then educate your kid that this is the way to eat your meals. I am sick and tired of catering to the Mussie’s because they believe their faith comes before all things. Well, so does my faith, but being an AMERICAN, I believe that it is “YOUR” responsibility to “FIRST, BE AN AMERICAN”, and do what may be novel to nubie immigrants, – Assimilate, and if you don’t like that, then get the crap out of the USA. I have no problems with anyone who requires special needs, but damn it, it is your responsibility to “YOU” to assimilate to “OUR” country, not the other way around. Personally, I am getting real tired of some mussie’s coming in and “DEMANDING” special treatment, 5 times per day to pray that puts a burden on the employer while also putting extra loads onto other employees, or how about companies being required to pay for specific dietary plans for certain types of employees, or how about “DEMANDING” the koran be taught in elementary schools. This is all total bullshlt, period!
So if you want your kid to have certain foods during the day, then damn it prepare them yourself, and stop demanding that the schools accommodate your beliefs. Heck, if I came to any muslim country, would they openly allow me to put out a manger at Christmas, or celebrate a Passover or observe the faith that Easter calls for, or how about just carrying a Bible? Don’t think there are too many folks in the world who are still tolerant with folks praying to “Christ our Lord and Savior”.
So bottom line gang, if you want to stay in the best country in the world, then stop trying to demand my faith be changed to the Koran, and “STOP” trying to demand the already 98% of this country’s praying to Jesus, just because you feel entitled, and think you have the right to change what I believe and worse, stop trying to “DEMAND” that because you are now here, that you have the rights to demand “ANYTHING”, from other fellow American’s. If you are new to this country, welcome, but damn it, show some respect for those that died and enabled you to be more free than where you came from, especially for those willing to die so that your kid(s) can grow and prosper. All without using religion as a right to be here! Bullshlt, if you are here, and became a “LEGAL” US Citizen, then welcome neighbor! As far as I am concerned, you are “NOT” African, HIspanic, Jewish, Asian or whatever! You are simply an “AMERICAN”, now act like it, PERIOD!
Amen!
When I was a kid we had a choice. Purchase the school lunch or brown bag it. [The lunch was prepared at home and put in a brown bag or a lunch pail.] We generally preferred our home made lunch and got the best seat in the lunch room as we did not have to stand in line. When you have a Muslim or anyone else complain about what is being served MAKE YOUR OWN LUNCH. What is wrong with this society. I think lunches are free now aren’t they?
When you become an American…you assimilate ! Do NOT bring any so called religion that will NOT comply with our Constitution or for that matter will not comply with any western culture ! Islam/Sharia Laws is NOT compatible with any western culture ! Banned in 1952 & fought against during our first three Presidents; remember the Tripoli war ?
“Do NOT bring any so called religion that will NOT comply with our Constitution…”
I’m curious, Richard Blake, what Constitution are you referring to, that requires a religion to be compliant with it? Certainly not ours! From the First Ammendment, of the US Constitution:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”
This was the basis for establishing the “separation of church & state” – there is nothing in it demanding an assimilation to Christianity, or any other religion. In fact, our Constitution PROTECTS our citizens from being persecuted for their religious beliefs & practices.
No, it was not. the seperation clause is not in the constitution, it was however in a private letter between two of our founding fathers.
It’s fairly simple – you don’t like what the school serves, drag your butt out of bed a few minutes earlier and make your child what you want them to eat.
That part about her not wanting have her child bring lunch so that she can ‘fit in’ is antithetical to Muslim beliefs and not really possible when the child has to follow the religious restrictions imposed by Islam. If this little girl grows up as a Muslim, she will have to get used to not fitting in with her peers.
With a great eye and taste for delineation, you can create a place
impeccable for almost any exercises connected with feasting room.
If this is an issue of yours too, you then should learn in regards to the best ways to procure such
things. Matisse also became the king with the Fauvism and was
famous inside art circle.
If I thought my child’s physical, mental, OR spiritual well being was at risk because of a food restriction, I certainly wouldn’t be depending on the school’s ‘lunch lady’ to keep them safe! If there’s an allergy to peanuts, sugar, gluten, or their religion prohibits the use of pork then it’s the parents responsibility for their safety! Get up early and take the time to pack the food they CAN eat…. I even took the time to decorate my daughters lunch sack to brighten her day…. she was ‘different’, BUT the other kids were jealous of the special attention she got…. from her mom!
I can’t eat mushrooms. I have had occasions where mushrooms were in my food. I don’t pick them out but I just leave the food without making a fuss. We all have problems with some food item, so just suck it up and move on. Muslims want you to change your whole menu to cater to them. Surprised the mother didn’t sue as they usually do.
I have a child with a peanut allergy. Until he was able to recognize danger foods on his own, I checked the lunch menu and packed him an alternative lunch whenever an item with peanuts were to be served. It’s called being a responsible parent.
