Woman Refuses To Help Teen After He Is Hit By Car [PHOTO]
A woman refused to help a teenage cyclist who was hit by the car in which she was a passenger, claiming his bloody face would scare her children.
Taron Stead, 17, was riding his new mountain bike in morning rush hour traffic in Sheffield when the male driver in a silver car hit him, The Huffington Post reports.
“Taron said the woman in the car got out looked over at him, told him she had children in the car who were upset and she didn’t want them to be late for school, then the car drove off,” Naomi Pickard, Stead’s mother, said.
“I can’t believe anyone would leave an injured child at the side of the road after a crash, but it was rush hour and it would have been busy so I am hoping that witnesses come forward and help the police trace the driver. There is [closed-circuit TV] in the area too,” she added.
Staff from a nearby law school eventually helped the boy out, rushing him to the hospital. The boy had facial injuries and bruising.
Many were upset by the story, with one local bike store even offering to fix the boy’s bike for free.
“Unfortunately it doesn’t shock me. I work in road works and mother’s dropping kids off at school are the worst,” commented Anton Eiram Rahm on Watch This: It was just a dream’s Facebook page.
Police and Pickard urge anybody with further information to come forward.
“I hope the driver and his passenger who drove off see Taron’s injuries and think about their actions,” she added. “Fortunately he was wearing a helmet, or I dread to think what might have happened.”
Unfortunately, these types of incidents often happen more than one would think.
“Something like this happened to me when I was twelve. I was riding my bike when a car hit me,” recalled Jose Carlos Lopez in a Facebook comment. “I actually flew off my bike and fell on the pavement. The car pulled over to check if his car was damaged, and just left me on the street and drove away. :l This is even worse, since this guy is in worse shape than I was.”
