The husband of a woman who died of lung problems entered her room to say his farewells when he caught a male nurse who was having sex with her dead body. The man beat the nurse to a pulp and then handed him over to police who have charged him with profaning a corpse and obscene acts. I can’t imagine how the husband felt but because of the beatdown of the nurse, I can have a pretty good idea. It is one of the most reprehensible crimes I can imagine.
Having sex with corpses is known as necrophilia and records show that it existed at least as far back as ancient Egypt:

Herodotus writes in The Histories that, to discourage intercourse with a corpse, ancient Egyptians left deceased beautiful women to decay for “three or four days” before giving them to the embalmers. A common theme in these artifacts is the masturbation of a male skeleton by a living woman.[8] Hittite law from the 16th century BC through to the 13th century BC explicitly permitted sex with the dead.
In a modern example, Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer who suffered from necrophilia. In order to be aroused, he had to murder his victims before performing sexual intercourse with them. Dahmer stated that he only killed his victims because they wanted to leave after having sex, and would be angry with him for drugging them. British serial killer Dennis Nilsen is also considered to have been a necrophiliac.
Police chief Douglas Uzquiano said the unsavoury incident happened on Monday night around an hour after the female patient died at Hospital de Clinicas in La Paz and was transferred to a hospital morgue.
He said: ‘Relatives of the dead woman had gone to the hospital to cancel a debt they had for the medical treatment she received.
‘The husband went to the morgue and saw a male nurse having sex with his late wife.’
The unnamed husband told a local newspaper: ‘I saw what he was doing and hit him. He was moving and he had his trousers down.’
The pervert hospital worker blamed his actions on a trance.
He was quoted as saying: ‘Something happened. It was like a dream. The next thing I remember was feeling a blow from behind when the woman’s husband hit me.’
The unnamed female patient, a 28-year-old, had only died around an hour before she was targeted.
Prosecutors said Macuchapi could not be charged with necrophilia because the offence didn’t exist under Peruvian law.
