A 13-year-old made a 911 call to the Sumter Police department says he want to run away from his home.

Officer Gaetano Acerra was the one who was dispatched to his address. When Officer Acerra arrived, the boy was sitting on the front doorway in tears. In a one-on-one meeting with Cameron the officer learned that 13-year-old Cameron Simmons wanted to run away from home. Simmons said that his mother had yelled at him for playing his older brother’s video games.

Cameron let the Officer go inside in his room but Officer Acerra was in great shock what he saw inside. His room was completely empty. His clothes were thrown in a trash bag. He didn’t even have a bed.

Officer Acerra then learned that Cameron’s mother was struggling financially after moving the family from Texas to South Carolina to care for a sick relative.

Officer Acerra knew he had to do something for the boy and his family. He decided to put together a surprise for the young boy by getting him an entirely knew bedroom set and gathering other toys/items for the other children.

With the help of his brother, Acerra loaded up and dropped off a brand new desk, chair, television, bed and Wii game system for Cameron. He also gave Cameron’s brother a full bedroom and an air hockey table for them to play together.
